Gender Amplified is a nonprofit organization that aims to celebrate Women in music production, raise their visibility and develop a pipeline for girls and young women to get involved behind the scenes as music producers. The movement also connects passion for music with technical skills that can be used in a wide range of scientific and arts based fields, areas in which Women are traditionally underrepresented. The mission of the Gender Amplified movement is to provide a platform for the promotion and advancement of women in music production and to identify and motivate the next generation of women music producers. By organizing public events that foster healthy dialogue about the role gender plays in the music making process, Gender Amplified endeavors to give voice to a subculture of women who are using music technology to create their own music and perpetuate their unique identities.

Gender Amplified and Art Girl Army join forces to get girls into music production and audio engineering! Join us for a hands-on workshop in a professional recording studio, followed by an intimate discussion with artist/activist Genesis Be on how to combine production techniques and political activism in powerful ways. Let’s create a safe space to meet and create! This workshop is intended for those interested in learning more about the art of music production and the recording process. We ask that you only sign up if you can stay for both the workshop and lecture.
Genesis Be is a critically acclaimed artist from Biloxi, Mississippi. She is also a Hurricane Katrina Survivor who relocated to New York City after helping in rebuilding efforts after the storm. She graduated NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and 2011. Her activism and art have been published by Billboard, Washington Post,L.A. Times, The Village Voice, Soultrain and more.
In 2016, G.Be made international headlines when she did a musical protest against the MS State Flag and the Confederate Emblem. She continues to work with Aunjanue Ellis’ TAKE IT DOWN AMERICA campaign that seeks to replace the current MS state flag with one that is representative of all citizens of Mississippi.
G.Be’s has been deemed ‘prolific’ by peers and press due to her having executively produced over 7 original albums, numerous singles and mixtapes during her still budding career. Her latest project “People Not Things” is set for release in mid-2017
She currently resides in Brooklyn but returns to the Gulf Coast annually to work with youth leaders & grassroots initiative to inspire young Mississippians to use their talents for progress and inclusiveness.

With over fifteen years of experience, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Hidden Chapel Studios Abhita Austin serves as a unique talent to the recording industry. Alumna of New York University’s Music Technology program, Abhita began her career in the late 90s at Quad recording studios in Manhattan. There she developed her craft while working with artists like Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot, Common and R&B legend Roy Ayers.
With the rise of digital recording at the start of the millennium, Abhita transitioned into freelance Pro Tools engineering. Working extensively with acts on the Warner Bros. Urban Music label, Abhita recorded chart-topping artists like Anthony Hamilton and Craig David. She has also recorded and mixed songs for the Grammy Award winning R&B group Product G&B.
Abhita’s list of satisfied clients continues to grow. Serving as Staff Engineer for 3 years at Sabella Recording Studios, Abhita “energized” the atmosphere as she expanded her musical repertoire. At Sabella, Abhita worked with artists from a variety of genres ranging from gospel, with Grammy Award winning artist Donnie McClurkin, to jazz, with guitar-god Derek Trucks. Abhita is best known for her outstanding Pro Tools editing skills and is often referred to as "the Doctor" by many of her clients who liken the care and expertise that she applies to generating an exceptional product to that of a “professional healer.
In 2009, Abhita expanded her creative vision and opened Hidden Chapel Studios, a boutique recording facility in the heart of Long Island. Hidden Chapel Studios provides a retreat atmosphere enabling artists and professionals to create in a low-stress environment. In addition, Hidden Chapel provides live sound services for concerts and conferences in the United States as well as abroad.
Ebonie Smith is an award-winning music producer, audio engineer and singer-songwriter based in New York City. Ebonie is also the founder and chief executive officer of Gender Amplified, Inc., an organization that celebrates and supports women and girls in music production and audio engineering. Ebonie received her first Grammy Certificate and RIAA-certified platinum plaque for work as an assistant engineer on Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording). She currently works as an audio engineer, producer and studio coordinator for Atlantic Records.
Ebonie holds a master's degree in Music Technology from New York University and a bachelor's degree in Africana Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University. While in college, Ebonie received training from Columbia University's Computer Music Center and studied abroad in the West African nation of Cameroon. During her 5-month stay, she performed with bands, worked in studios and produced local artists.
At the age of seventeen, Ebonie left her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee to pursue her musical aspirations in the entertainment capital of New York City. In college, Ebonie discovered her love for music production and began using her baby-sitting money to finance her own project recording studio. While an undergraduate student, she began producing music for aspiring artists and establishing herself as an up-and-coming producer/engineer. This initial interest in recording and music technology set Ebonie on a path to discover new and interesting ways of merging her love for music production with a sincere desire to impact social consciousness through musical exploration and education.
